EEB Hub is assisting Methodist Home for Children to design, deliver and verify a full-building retrofit of the facility. Potential occupant comfort and energy conservation measures have been preliminarily identified in a site assessment. The Hub is facilitating the retrofit using an integrated design approach. Two unique aspects of this effort differentiate it from current Integrated Process practices in the marketplace: (1) we are scaling down the level of effort (and therefore cost) to be practically applicable to ‘partial’ energy retrofit projects in existing, occupied small to medium sized commercial buildings, and (2) the outcome will be ‘phased’ energy retrofit plans (similar to ‘asset management’ or ‘capital improvement’ plans) that acknowledge that the overwhelming number of retrofit opportunities in the market must be structured as phased implementations over a 5-10 year period in order to be practical.
